Netflix has released the official trailer for the documentary, which showcases the emotional and technical scale of the final season.
In a statement, the Duffer Brothers explained that the project was born out of a love of physical media and the legendary behind-the-scenes access provided by Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth sagas.
“Growing up in Durham, North Carolina, we dreamed of being filmmakers – but Hollywood seemed impossibly far away. When we watched the behind-the-scenes documentaries for The Lord of the Rings – movies made on the ground, showing the real nuts and bolts of how mass production really works. We saw how stressed Peter Jackson was and thought: Yes, that’s the dream.”
He continued, noting that in the streaming age, this level of transparency is rare:
“With the decline of physical media, the behind-the-scenes story has largely disappeared. We wanted to bring it back. One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things Season 5 – beautifully captured and directed by Martina Radwan – is our attempt to do just that. If you love Stranger Things, or if you’re simply curious how a major Hollywood production comes to life, this is for you.”
Radwan says the Duffer Brothers’ process “pushes the boundaries and inspires everyone to be better.”
With the final season set to conclude the Hawkins saga, this documentary seems to be a perfect companion piece for fans who want to say a proper goodbye to the crew that made it all happen.
