Created by Haley Z. Boston and produced by Matt and Ross Duffer stranger things fame), something very bad is going to happen is Netflix’s latest horror offering – and it’s really good. In this post, we’re taking a look at the ending: Does something really bad happen? What was the curse?
Told over the course of a week, something very bad is going to happen Following bride-to-be Rachel (Camila Morrone) and groom Nicky (Adam DeMarco), they travel to Nicky’s parents’ vacation cabin, located in the rural, snowy woods, where they will hold their idyllic winter wedding. However, when Rachel meets her fiancé’s eccentric family, she discovers a sense of dread. These are not wedding butterflies Everyone get; It’s something deeper and more sinister.
The series is a masterclass in fear, leaving viewers feeling unsettled by its gloomy, foreboding atmosphere, even if the fear is mental rather than physical. But Rachel sensed impending doom Is Justified. She soon discovers that her family is cursed by some ancient occult spell, the intricate details of which are obscured in the show. In the days before her wedding, Rachel watches a video of her mother, who had married someone who was not her spouse, and suffered a particularly gruesome death shortly thereafter.
Turns out, this curse started several centuries ago. Her father tells her the story, revealing that one of his ancestors had made a deal with death to bring her lover back to life. There was only one condition for her wish to be fulfilled: he must be her true life partner. There is a slight allusion or the story of Orpheus from Greek myth. And from that point forward, Rachel’s entire family was bound by the curse. Once the betrothed has entered into marriage, if her husband is not her true spouse, she dies. Naturally, once Rachel learns about this curse, she panics: Is Nicky In right terms His spouse?

There is another twist to the curse too. Throughout the series, Rachel keeps meeting a strange man, who we know only as The Witness (Zlatko Burik). She appears to be heavily invested in Rachel’s journey, and with good reason. Rachel not only sees him in the present, but also sees him in an old video of her parents’ wedding. Even after so many years his age did not increase even by a day. He is immortal, and is another victim of the curse. He tells Rachel that once, many years ago, he ran away from his wedding out of fear, and thus the curse spread to another family. Turns out, the best way to avoid the curse is to never get engaged in the first place… who would have thought!
As the wedding ceremony approaches, Rachel finds herself resorting to more desperate measures. She figures out such a way to lift the curse associated with a strange potion; A mixture of her own bones, the groom’s sperm, her mother-in-law’s hair and blood. As guests gather for the ceremony, Rachel races around the venue, cutting her toe in the process. Ultimately, she gathers everything she needs, but she decides not to consume it, perhaps believing that Nicky is actually her soulmate. However, at the altar, when the vows are taken, Nicky shows hesitation after learning about her parents’ relationship. His hesitation triggers the curse, and his family begins to die.
Rachel also appears to have died from bleeding, but it is eventually revealed that she is okay – at least in supernatural form. The curse is transferred into Nicky’s bloodline, meaning The Witness eventually senses death and Rachel takes her place in immortality.
