Following the success of Derry Girls, creator Lisa McGee has returned to the setting she knows best. New 8-episode drama How to get to heaven from belfast Incorporates a little bit of everything. You’ll laugh out loud, you’ll fall in love with these friends, and you’ll follow a hilarious murder mystery case that takes you on a wild and unexpected journey across Northern Ireland (and beyond).
How to get to heaven from belfast Follows three lifelong friends in their late 30s: Saoirse (Roisin Gallagher), a popular TV writer; Robin (Sinead Keenan), a stressed-out mother of three; and Dara (Caoilfhionn Dunn), a carer. After growing up and living separate lives, they are brought together after learning that Greta, the fourth member of their friendship group, has tragically died. Together, they travel together to express their condolences. But soon, old secrets begin to resurface and they discover that Greta’s death is not what it seems.
Silly, silly, and full of teen humor (which is not a criticism at all), this series will make you instantly fall in love with these characters, from their quirks to their obvious flaws. They are three best friends, and despite their unfamiliarity after being apart for so long, they develop infectious chemistry as they embark on a chaotic road trip together. Whether they bring out the worst or the best in each other (or perhaps a little of both) depends on perspective. If one thing is certain, nothing is simple.
The series takes the philosophy of ‘anything that can go wrong, will go wrong’ and runs with it. Although there are plenty of big action sequences, they don’t do much of the heavy lifting. It’s extremely character-centric. The laugh-out-loud comedy comes from the clash of their personalities and fast-paced dialogue. The jokes and puns come thick and fast – I found myself taking repetitions in the quirky lines, said in mundane and unfiltered ways.
Plus, the show shares strong DNA with one of the greatest comedies of all time, none other than father ted. Many of the comedy beats are the same, but what’s more, it also has two former beats. father ted Stars in recurring roles: Ardal O’Hanlon and Michael Redmond.

father ted Being experienced is one thing, but the show also includes young talent in its cast. Another one I liked is Darragh Hand, who plays Liam, a full-time police officer and part-time mechanic who is strangely in love with Saoirse, 12 years his senior. Bronagh Gallagher is another standout as the determined and tenacious Booker, a woman who will stop at nothing to get what she wants.
The show often switches between time periods, ranging from modern times to when the girls went back to school. It traces how their friendship developed, their early trials and tribulations. The series uses these flashbacks to give hints and clues on the overall mystery. There is success in doing a lot of things show but not much I am telling.
I’ve spent a lot of time talking about the comedy aspect of this series, although it doesn’t really mean much if the story isn’t tight and compelling. Thankfully, McGee crafts a mystery that keeps you heavily invested from the beginning. The series moves at a fast pace, with changes and new twists coming with each episode. Granted, the pace slows down a bit towards the end, probably a result of turning the story’s marathon into a sprint. It throws secrets at you from multiple angles, and feels saturated with breadcrumbs as a result. There are some stories that go nowhere, or seem meaningless.

Mystery dramas live or die by their endings. If they don’t stick to the conclusion and satisfy the audience, the whole thing goes in vain. Without spoiling things, the show delivers a satisfying conclusion while tying up loose ends. It won’t blow you away; It will not let you down. However, unlike many other genre shows, it seemed as if the journey was always more important than the final destination.
How to get to heaven from belfast Adventure in Northern Ireland (and even Portugal). You never know where the show will take you next, but one certainty is that it will always be thrilling.

Roisin Gallagher, Sinéad Keenan, and Caolphionn Dunn – I know, this could be considered a cop-out answer. Listen to me. This is a show that depends heavily on its three central heroes. They each get roughly equal amount of screen time, and their individual performances are strong. However, when they come together – with such an explosive and high-energy clash of personalities – that’s when the series is at its strongest.

said that, How to get to heaven from belfast It is, in its own way, a love letter to Northern Ireland, exploring themes of friendship, life, loss and grief. It has an infectious charm, and is genuinely laugh out loud funny.
