Netflix secures US rights to new television adaptation Lord of the Flies. The series, produced by the team behind sex educationIt features a bunch of newcomers, including a young actor who’s already set to lead Netflix’s huge upcoming film The Chronicles of Narnia A reboot from Greta Gerwig later this year.
Just ahead of its BBC premiere and sale to other providers, Netflix has acquired exclusive US rights to the four-part limited series, which is now available in full in the UK on BBC iPlayer and has already aired in Australia. News, first reported deadlineConfirms that the streamer beat out several other interested buyers for the coveted drama, but only in the United States, with rivals winning out elsewhere. Sony Pictures Television is behind this show.

The thing that’s making headlines for Netflix subscribers is its presence David McKenna. McKenna plays the iconic role of Piggy in this adaptation, but she’s already on the radar of Netflix spies for a big reason. The young actor is set to star as Diggory Kirke in Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated adaptation The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s NephewWhich is currently in post-production for the streamer.

What is Lord of the Flies?
Based on William Golding’s 1954 Nobel Prize-winning novel, it is surprisingly the first television adaptation of the book (previous versions were feature films).

Adding to the cinematic pedigree, the score features a main theme and music by the renowned composer hans zimmer (dune, lion king) with Cara Talves, with the series score composed by Cristóbal Tapia de Veer (white lotus).

The series features a large cast of young talent, many of whom are making their screen debut:
- Winston Sawyers As Ralph, the group’s initially elected leader.
- Lox Prat As Jack, the lead singer who challenges Ralph’s authority.
- David McKenna As Piggy, the intellectual outsider.

Netflix has not yet confirmed a US release date, although the series is already airing in the UK and being presented at the Berlin International Film Festival this month, with a release likely in 2026.
