Netflix wants to end 2025 with an international bang. The streamer has acquired SVOD rights to the serious Indonesian animated feature Panaji TengkorakWhich is set to hit the platform on New Year’s Eve after its theatrical release earlier this year.
Directed by Daryl Wilson and produced by Falcon Pictures, Panaji Tengkorak It is an adaptation of a 1960s comic strip by Hans Zaladara. While the character has seen live-action adaptations, this 2025 iteration reimagines the story through a distinctive, stylized animation format that blends 2D artistry with 3D depth. “Flashed with rage after the murder of his wife, Panji (Denny Sumargo) wanders the land as a tormented warrior. Seeking revenge, he attempts to use black magic, but is cursed with immortality – unable to die and haunted by the same forces he sought to control.
Seeking an end to his suffering, Panaji encounters an old guru named Bramantya, who offers a solution: to retrieve the ‘Adidaya’, a sacred relic stolen by the bandit Kalawereng. The mission thrusts Panaji into the middle of the War Between the Kingdoms, forcing him to confront his inner demons.
