To make room for new characters and promote current originals, Netflix regularly removes older profile avatars. Although this makes sense from a marketing standpoint, it’s always troublesome when your cozy character gets promoted.
Well, if you’re mourning the loss of your favorite retired Netflix avatar, we have some good news for you.
A new third-party browser extension aptly named “Restore Retired Netflix Profile” has just arrived on the Chrome Web Store, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Created by a developer who goes by the username 3ndCraft on Reddit (or a website that links to Backslash Robotics), this little tool brings back a vast trove of over 550 legacy profile pictures that Netflix has quietly phased out over the years to bring the total number of avatars you can choose from to 913 at the time of publishing.

What does an extension do?
As mentioned, Netflix regularly changes its collection of available avatars, often prioritizing currently airing shows and movies. Once these old avatars expire, you will no longer be able to use them.
Fans have already used the extension to recreate avatars from popular shows and franchises, including:
- of difference
- a series of Unfortunate Events
- Castlevania
- Sabrina’s hair-raising act
- dark crystal
- disillusionment
- love, death and robots
- the Sandman
- heart arrester
- strange eye
- stranger things Seasons 1-4
- my little Pony
- agretsuko
- skylanders
Sadly, this doesn’t currently restore the much older functionality that used to allow you to connect to your Facebook profile and use your profile icon there, but still.
How to get your classic icon back
Bringing your favorite character back from the digital graveyard is incredibly simple:
- Go to the Chrome Web Store download more Restore Retired Netflix Profile Expansion.
- Add this to your browser (This works on Google Chrome and most Chromium-based browsers like Edge or Brave).
- Log in to Netflix On your computer browser and go to the “Manage Profile” section.
- Edit your profileAnd you will find an extended list of 900+ revived icons waiting for your selection!
The best part? Once you’ve set your profile picture using the extension on your computer, the icon will sync across your account. This means that your revived avatar will appear exactly as before on your smart TV, phone and tablet.
Note: Like any third-party browser extension, this tool is not officially endorsed or supported by Netflix. Future updates to Netflix’s user interface could potentially break the extension, but for now, it’s working flawlessly.
