Netflix is bringing Broadway to your living room beginning in 2026. The streamer has acquired the rights to Good night, and good luck: Live from BroadwayFilmed recording of George Clooney’s acclaimed stage debut.
The drama, which previously had a limited run in New York in 2025, originally aired live as a television special on CNN and on HBO Max (it will soon be under Netflix’s wing if the acquisition is completed). Now, those who missed the live broadcast (or the expensive ticket prices) will get a chance to see the Hollywood A-lister take command of the stage. Magnolia Pictures is the distributor of digital rights.

The project is a unique full-circle moment for Clooney. He co-wrote, directed, and starred in the original 2005 film, which earned six Academy Award nominations.
For the 2025 stage adaptation, Clooney returned to the material but reversed the roles. In the film, he played producer Fred Friendly; He stepped into the lead role on Broadway Edward R. dieNoted CBS journalist who famously challenged Senator Joseph McCarthy during the height of the Red Scare.
This production was noted for its unique emotional staging. Displayed in black and white to mimic the aesthetic of 1950s television (and the original film), the play transforms the theater into a live TV studio, placing the audience right in the middle of high-stakes newsroom tension.
The play, set in 1953, describes the real-life conflict between Murrow and Senator McCarthy. As McCarthy mounts a campaign to root out alleged communists in the government and media, Murrow and his dedicated team of reporters decide to take a stand, using their broadcast platform to expose the senator’s fear-mongering tactics despite heavy corporate and political pressure.

“A tight, historical drama about journalism’s responsibility in the face of political tyranny. As Senator Joseph McCarthy casts a shadow of fear over the country, newsman Edward R. Murrow fights to report the truth regardless of the consequences.”

Along with Clooney, the talented ensemble cast in the Broadway production brought CBS Newsroom to life, though the streaming release highlighted Clooney as the central attraction. Mac Brandt, Will Dagger, Christopher Denham, Glenn Fleshler, Ilana Glazer and Clark Gregg were among the artists,
The production for the stage was directed by Tony Award winner David Cromer.
While Netflix has dabbled in filmed stage productions before (notably). Springsteen on Broadway And Diana: The Musical), high-profile straight plays are rare on the stage.
