Responding to the renewal, showrunner Jeff Norton said:

“I plan to create a show about love, featuring characters who are walking particularly difficult paths in their lives and in sports. It is a true gift to be able to work with such a talented cast to chronicle these characters’ journey in Season 2 in collaboration with Netflix and WildBrain.”

Author Jennifer Iacopelli also shared her excitement:

“I’m beyond blown away by the reception of Finding Her Edge by audiences around the world. The end of Season 1 connects several pending plot points: Adriana chooses to pursue her relationship with childhood boyfriend Freddy after ending her ‘fake dating’ partnership with Braden.

However, there There is no sequel to Iacopelli’s 2022 novel. Any new content will be completely original to the Netflix adaptation. Looking at its future, showrunner Jeff Norton has given us a hint as to where the story is going.

“I’m sure fans will be delighted as we delve deeper into the two love triangles that drive our show – romantic and familial,” Norton said in a press release. “There’s a lot of drama both on and off the ice.”

Speaking exclusively to What’s on Netflix ahead of the renewal, Norton was already teasing the friction to come. While the Russo rink is technically saved at the end of Season 1, the solution brings its own problems.

“Practically, we’re told at the end of season one that the Russo rink has been taken over by a rival rink, Voltage Skating Academy,” Norton told us. “There’s also an interesting dynamic at play with it. At some point, the Rousseau skaters are going to have to merge with the Voltage skaters. And I think there’s going to be a lot of friction there.”

Norton also revealed that writing for the next chapter began almost immediately after the first season ended in Europe. He said, “We finished filming Finding Her Edge in Paris… and I really started writing more about it on the plane ride home in June.” “I think it’s really about the emotional lives of the characters and figuring out whether some of them have got what they want by the end of season two. But the interesting dramatic question is: Do they need it? Emotionally that’s the element I want to explore.”

The main cast have also revealed what they hope will be included in season 2. Madeline Keys wants Adriana to grow closer to the people around her. “I want to see him become more engaged with other people in his life and realize that sometimes everything isn’t about him,” she said. “I would like him to be a support not only to his father, but to other people in his life.”

As far as Ollie Atkins is concerned, he wants Freddie’s competitive nature to shine even more. “I want to see their competitive spirit unleashed,” he said. “I think, with this whole history of really constricting her emotions and controlling how she expresses her emotions, I want to see her break free. I think that would be really fun to play with her.”

And then there’s Braden, who ends the series with Riley as his new skating partner. Star Callie Ambrosik said, “I thought, God willing, we ended Season 2 on a really great note.”

The pieces are in place for the second installment find its edge.
