Matthew Goode returns as Detective Karl Mork in an all-new and exciting season Department Q. Filming is scheduled to begin in July 2026 in Edinburgh, Scotland and run through December 2026. Here’s everything we know so far Department Q Season 2 on Netflix.
Department Q is a Netflix Original crime-thriller series developed by Scott Frank and Chandni Lakhani. This is the English adaptation of the series Beloved Department Q Novels by Danish writer Jussi Adler-Olsen.
Scott Frank has also confirmed that he will return to direct the second season of The Department. Question:
“I’m grateful to the people at Netflix, as well as our dazzling cast and crew, who once again risked their careers to enable my idiocy.”
The series is produced by Left Bank Pictures and Sony Pictures Television, with Scott Frank, Andy Harries and Rob Bullock serving as executive producers.

Rob Bullock of Left Bank Pictures had the following to say about the upcoming second season:
“So, we’re headed down to Department Q for a second season. We at Left Bank Pictures are nervously waiting to see what Scott has in store for his alter ego Carl Mork and the other capable members of the team. We salute Netflix’s courage in setting them free once again.”
what to expect from Department Q season 2?
Carl Mork successfully rescues Merritt Lingard from her kidnappers, the Jennings family, with the help of his cold case colleagues. With that case solved, Mork and the rest of the department move on to a new cold case. Additionally, Mork is convinced that the Leith Park shooting, which resulted in the death of an officer, an informant, and the near death of his partner, was no random attack, but a brutal, coordinated attack involving gangster Eugene Arrington.
We’d expect the Leith Park shooting to be the same case that will be hanging over Mork’s head throughout Season 2; However, the series could go in a number of directions thanks to the available source material.
- Disgrace (Fasandreburn) – This is the story of an old double murder involving rich schoolboys turned powerful men
- Redemption (Flaskpost Fra P) –
- Guilty (Journal 64) – Covers state-run abuse programs and institutional cruelty, which fits with season 1’s themes of care home abuse and buried trauma.
- Burial (Marco Effecten) – A runaway boy exposes financial crimes and human trafficking
- The Hanging Girl (Dane Groncelos) – A shocking case involving a seventeen-year-old girl who disappeared from school. Only one was found hanging dead at a high place on a tree.
- Wounded Woman (Selfies) – Carl and Department Q are pressured to solve the murder of an elderly woman that bears striking resemblance to another unsolved murder from a decade earlier.
- Victim 2117 (Proposition 2117) – An intensely personal case for a member of Department Q, whose link to Victim 2117, the 2117th refugee to die in the Mediterranean, uncovers dark secrets about his past and the family who long believed him dead.
- The Shadow Murders (Natrium Chloride) – The suicide of a 60-year-old woman reveals the link to a series of murders that have been occurring every 2 years for the past three decades.
- Locked In (Syv m2 med Lås) – The final entry in the Department Q novels by Jussi Adler-Olsen.
With no shortage of source material, we can’t wait to see where the story goes next.
