After a big year, including the critically acclaimed drama J Kelly and the streaming record-breaker Happy Gilmore 2, Adam Sandler is officially setting his next dramatic feature at Netflix.
Sandler is teaming up with the acclaimed writer-director Scott Cooper (crazy heart, fighterof netflix pale blue eye) for Time Out, a psychological family drama that has been quietly gathering momentum since the beginning of the year. With cameras rolling very soon, Netflix has assembled an incredible, star-studded ensemble cast.

What is the story of Time Out?
time out is an English-language remake of Laurent Cantet and Robin Campillo’s acclaimed 2001 French film L’Employee du Temps.
Scott Cooper is writing and directing the adaptation. According to the official production listing and synopsis details, the film will explore themes of identity, work, and the toxic pressure of societal expectations.
Here is the full logline of the film:
“Vincent appears to happily spend his weeks on the road, busy with business trips and meetings. He shares vague details with his beloved wife Muriel and their three children… But Vincent’s professional life is actually imaginary. He is not able to tell his family and friends about losing his longtime consulting job weeks earlier.
Vincent feels pressured to invent a prestigious new job for himself in Geneva. Lying becomes a full-time occupation. To maintain his lost income, he even betrays his friends who trust him in dubious investment deals. All Vincent ever wanted was to take time out from his stifling professional life, yet somehow continue his family’s life as before. Now the ever-increasing tension of Vincent’s world is rapidly coming to an end. Expectations of a provincial community where your work is who you are. Persistent worry about a former co-worker. A father’s intense desire for the best for his son.”
Speaking to Deadline, which reported the full cast in March 2026 about adapting the story, director Scott Cooper said, “I first encountered Laurent Cantet’s film in 2001, and it’s stayed with me ever since. I’ve been thinking about revisiting it for years, but now felt like the right time – we live in a time where questions of identity, work, and self-worth have become impossible to ignore. Is.”
Who is in the cast of Time Out?
Adam Sandler Has officially attached himself to the project in late 2026 and will play the lead role of Vincent. Sandler has called Netflix his primary home for over a decade, producing and starring in several films. This appears to be similar to the likes of J Kelly, Spaceman, or Hussle, where their acting talents are on display rather than producing.

He was also involved with a Safdie project on baseball cards, although it is believed to be on permanent ice. He is also producing two films to be released in 2026. Wait, what about Dustin Hoffman and Christian Bale? Before the official cast list was released, there were some heavy rumors flying around. Christian Bale was reportedly being monitored initial role in the development processHowever, it appears that did not work out. However, a recent Canadian production listing also mentions two-time Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman as part of the cast. It may be possible that the role was eventually given to Willem Dafoe.

Who is behind the production?
Scott Cooper will serve as writer, director and producer of the film.
He is joined by veteran producer John Killick (The Hunger Games, Foxcatcher) and executive producer Tracy Landon (Maestro). The film’s cinematography will be directed by Masanobu Takayanagi, who previously worked with Cooper on Hostiles, out of the furnaceAnd pale blue eye.
When and where is Time Out filming?
Rumors of the project first began circulating in January 2026 when a Canadian production listing suggested a spring shoot. Those reports have proved to be absolutely accurate.
According to the recent listing, time out Currently in pre-production. Principal photography is scheduled to begin on March 31, 2026, and end on May 30, 2026, although Deadline suggested that filming may begin in April.
Filming will take place primarily in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with additional on-location shooting expected to take place in San Francisco, California.
