creator of dairy girls returns to Netflix with its latest darkly comic drama in early 2026, How to get to heaven from belfast. The eight-part series will premiere globally on February 12, 2026, on Netflix.
Netflix recently released the series’ official trailer, giving us our first look at the upcoming “dark, dangerous, and hilarious odyssey”:
Having worked on Channel 4 before coming to Netflix, the new comedy sees creator Lisa McGee reuniting with Derry Girls star Sinead Keenan among a host of new and established talent.
The plot focuses on three old friends in the Northern Irish capital – Saoirse, a clever, anarchic TV writer; Robin, a glamorous, stressed-out mother of three; and Darius, a trusting, reserved caregiver. Now in their late thirties and living very different lives, the group is still as close as ever. When they receive an email informing them of the death of Greta, the estranged fourth member of their childhood gang, a series of terrifying events in its wake lead them on a dark, dangerous and hilarious journey across Ireland and beyond, as each tries to piece together the truth from the past.
Production on the series began in Northern Ireland in July 2024.
“We got the gang back – the creative team back dairy girls has united again to bring you How to get to heaven from belfast,” creator, writer and executive producer Lisa McGee said in a statement. “This is the show I always wanted to make, a mix of two of my favorite genres, mystery and comedy. We want to keep you guessing and keep you laughing. I can’t wait for you to meet Saoirse, Robin and Dara and go on this wild, weird adventure with them – an Irish odyssey full of ups and downs and arguments about eyelash extensions.
The series is written and created by Lisa McGee, who executive produces alongside Caroline Leddy, Michael Lennox, Liz Levin, Jimmy Mulville and Jessica Sharkey. Brian J. Faulkner serves as producer. Lennox is one of a trio of directors on the project, the list also includes George Kane and Rachana Suri. Sion Terfor is providing the music while Ashley Barron, Nathalie Pitters and Daniel Stafford-Clerk are listed as cinematographers. Hat Trick Productions produces the show and it will consist of eight one-hour episodes.
