University entrance exams are a big deal in India. With millions of students competing for a few places in the country’s elite technical colleges, competition is fierce. In 2016, teacher Alakh Pandey founded a YouTube channel called Physics Wallah to teach physics curriculum for the Joint Entrance Examination. His accessible video lessons were so popular among students who had neither the time nor money to attend intensive coaching academies, that the YouTube channel expanded to include a comprehensive curriculum — and eventually an app.
Hello children (“hello kids“) is based on Pandey’s early struggles to give all his students the chance to reach their potential. The series also looks at the lives of some of those students to explore the challenges that can derail their futures.
