There’s only one Tree Hill, and it’s officially going to Netflix. In full preparation for Netflix’s own upcoming sequel series, the original teen drama phenomenon is coming to the platform in several international territories next month.
With production on Netflix’s revival series (starring Sophia Bush and Hilary Burton) expected to begin sometime in 2026, the streamer has wisely secured the rights to the show that started it all. The move allows a new generation to understand the Scott brothers’ rivalry before the next chapter begins.

Of course, this will serve as homework for the upcoming Netflix Original title, which is expected to enter production this year. In case you missed it, we announced last year that we would be bringing a sequel series to Warner Bros. Television with producer Becky Hartman Edwards writing and producing. The sequel is expected to take place 20 years later, following best friends Brooke Davis (Sophie Bush) and Peyton Sawyer (Hilary Burton), who are now the parents of teenagers and facing challenges that are not dissimilar to those they faced in the original series, such as love, insecurities, and grief.

The deal currently covers some key international markets, mirroring a trio of other Warner Bros. Vault series: Middle, person of interestAnd the Mentalist. As we’ve been covering, the licensing doors have been blown wide open since Netflix announced its acquisition of Warner Bros. and most of its properties late last year.

For those living in the US: While the sequel is a Netflix original, the classic series currently remains on Hulu and Max in the US. However, it is likely that the series will be removed from Netflix US at some point. Of course, Netflix was the series’ long-term streaming home for most of the 2010s, but the title ultimately left Netflix for good in October 2017.

Basketball, Brotherhood, and Gavin DeGraw
Premiering on The WB in 2003, one Tree Hill Survived the transition to The CW and ran for an impressive nine seasons. Unlike other teen serials of that era, it was based through sports and focused heavily on male vulnerability and brotherhood.
Set in the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina, the story initially revolves around stepbrothers Lucas (chad michael murray) and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty). They have the same father – the villain Dan Scott – but they grew up in very different worlds. When Lucas joins the high school basketball team, their rivalries erupt both on and off the court, complicating his and his friends’ lives.

The show launched the careers of its main cast, several of whom have been confirmed to return for the Netflix sequel:
