Zoinks and Jinkies! The mystery machine is officially loaded. In a rapid-fire series of casting scoops, Netflix has reportedly found its Velma Dinkley and Shaggy Rogers, completing the iconic Mystery Inc. gang for its upcoming live-action. Scooby Doo series.
This news comes on the heels of the announcement that Maxwell Jenkins is stepping into the role of Fred today. reliable scoop-finder @TuSubtitulocom (who first broke the Mckenna Grace casting) has revealed the final two members of the teen detective team.
abby rider fortson (Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret) has been cast as Velma Dinkley, the group’s resident brainiac. Marvel fans will immediately recognize her as the original Cassie Lang from the first two ant Man Movies. She will wear the iconic orange turtleneck, stepping into the role famously played by Linda Cardellini.
The quartet includes a rising actor tanner hagen (Lawman: Bass Reeves), who was cast as the always hungry and frightened Norville “Shaggy” Rogers.
Mystery Inc. the gang is complete
With the casting of Fortson and Hagen, the core team of teenage detectives is now fully assembled. The lineup for the modern reimagining currently looks like this:
- daphne blake – Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, stranger things)
- fred jones -Maxwell Jenkins (lost in Space, reacher)
- Velma Dinkley – Abby Ryder Fortson (Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret, ant Man)
- shaggy rogers – Tanner Hagen (Lawman: Bass Reeves, the pit)
Additionally, as we reported last week, the Emmy-winning Paul Walter Hauser We’re told the original Scooby boss is currently being eyed for the role.
Unveiling a deep origin story
Set to begin production in late April in Atlanta, Georgia and run through September, the story takes place during the teens’ last summer at camp. Shaggy and Daphne become embroiled in a mystery when a lost Great Dane puppy – who will eventually become Scooby-Doo – may be linked to a supernatural murder. To uncover the truth, they team up with Velma, “the most logical mind in town”, and Freddy, the “weird-but-handsome new kid”. As the foursome investigate, they not only try to solve a case that threatens to expose their own secrets, but also begin to form the legendary friendship that makes up Mystery Inc.
The eight-episode series comes from the writers and showrunners Josh Appelbaum And Scott Rosenberg (cowboy bebop). Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London will executive produce through Redman Berlanti Productions, with Warner Bros. Television producing.
