First announced at Next on Netflix UK in early 2024, production on the new drama series has officially completed AdultHeadlined by Robert Sheehan, Sarah Greene, Barry Ward and Aisling Bea.
Here’s an updated guide to everything you need to know about the upcoming show now that it’s finished shooting in Ireland.
What is Adult About this?
AdultA new eight-episode scripted drama (each episode running one hour long) based on the best-selling 2020 novel by Marian Keyes.
The official synopsis for the series, courtesy of See Saw Films, is as follows:
“Set in southern County Dublin, Grown Ups follows the chaotic lives of the Casey clan, a noisy, close-knit Irish family bound together by a tangled web of loyalty, resentment, money, memory and love.
When the head of the family, the “good son”, dies unexpectedly, it creates a seismic emotional state. Over the course of the next year, the Caseys will fall in and out of love, confront old wounds and create some new ones. They will be forced to confront not only their grief, but also the exhausting, relentless, and often ridiculous struggle of being an adult.
“Despite his age and responsibilities, Casey hasn’t grown up yet.”
See-Saw Films (production company behind slow horses And heart arrester) and picking scabs are behind the production. The series is created and written by Samantha Strauss (apple cider vinegar), who co-founded Picking Scabs as a joint venture with See-Saw. The writing team also features Liz Doran, Eugene O’Hare, Margaret Perry and Greg Waters.
The executive producers are Strauss, Helen Gregory, Andy Noble, Shay Spencer, Ian Canning, Emile Sherman, Liz Watts, Marion Keyes and James Griffiths, with Simon Gillis as co-executive producer and Liz Gill as series creator.
Who directs the episode? james griffiths And ciaran donnelly. For Netflix, the series is executive produced by Manda Levine, Henrietta Lee, and Mona Qureshi.
“I’m not alone in being enamored with every word written by Marian Keyes, and it’s such a true-to-life experience to believe in her characters as we unfold the Casey family and the world. Adult for Netflix,” said producer Samantha Strauss, who praised the “absolutely brilliant” cast and crew.
See-Saw’s Helen Gregory said the team was “thrilled to be collaborating with Picking Scabs,” calling the cast “talented” and promising warmth, wit, and deep emotion. Netflix’s Manda Levine highlighted the creative chemistry between Keys and Strauss and said that the best-in-class ensemble is already bringing the characters to life.
Writer Marian Keyes recalled the production trip as “a series of dreams come true”. where was Adult filmed?
Staying true to the novel’s roots, creator Samantha Strauss was adamant from the beginning that the show needed to be shot in Ireland. Filming took place over a six-month shoot which officially completed in February 2026. The cast and crew shot extensively in and around dublin– particularly highlights the recognizable streets of South County Dublin – with additional filming also taking place Wicklow.
As the series ended, Aisling Bea wrote Heartfelt post on Instagram On February 6, shared some behind-the-scenes photos on the series, writing:

when will it happen Adult Will it be released on Netflix?
Netflix has not yet announced an exact release date, although in its initial announcement it said it was aiming for a 2026 release. Now that filming has officially ended and the series has moved into post-production, it is highly expected to drop in late 2026. We’ll update this preview as production progresses and first look images arrive.
