First Looks at Saura Lightfoot-Leon & Louis Landau as Kick Kennedy & Billy Cavendish in Netflix’s ‘Kennedy’

Netflix recently released the first look at Michael Fassbender as Joe Sr. Kennedy in his biopic drama Kennedy, along with the full cast list. Just a few days later, we have a new exclusive first look behind the scenes with Saura Lightfoot-Lyon and Luis Landau as Kick Kennedy and Billy Cavendish.

Kennedy is an upcoming biographical drama starring the Pulitzer Prize-winning historian from Chernin Entertainment and executive produced by Sam Shaw (Manhattan). The series’ creator is Fredrik Logevall, who wrote the novel JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century. The novel documents the history of the Kennedy family, the United States’ closest equivalent to the royal family.

Crown Expires in 2023, and Kennedy is perfectly established as the natural successor. The series will be based on the lives, romances, careers and tragedies of Joe Kennedy Sr. (Michael Fassbender) and his children in the 1930s. For Kennedy’s full preview, you can find it here.

Stars we’ll see in the first season of Kennedy are Saura Lightfoot-Lyon as Kathleen ‘Kick’ Kennedy, the fourth child of Kennedy Sr., and Rose Kennedy, and Louis Landau as Billy Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington and member of the British aristocracy.

Filming has been underway in London since February (see our first photos here), and we have our first look at the pairing of Kick Kennedy and Billy Cavendish, captured at Waterloo Place in the City of Westminster over the weekend (March 29).

The historians among readers may already be aware of the story of Kathleen Kennedy and Billy Cavendish, but for those unfamiliar with the Kennedy family history, there are some spoilers ahead for the series.

Kathleen ‘Kick’ Kennedy was the second daughter and fourth child overall of Joe Sr. and Rose Kennedy. While her father was working as the US Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Kick got her start in 1938, and when war broke out in Europe, rather than return to the United States, she convinced her parents to let her live in England, where she would work with the American Red Cross and later marry William ‘Billy’ Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington in 1944.

Sadly, this marriage would be short-lived. Only four months later, Billy lost his life to a German sniper while on active service in Belgium. He was buried where he died, and his younger brother, Andrew Cavendish, succeeded him as heir apparent to the dukedom.

One of many tragedies would strike the Kennedy family, as only four years later, Kick Kennedy would lose his life during a flight from Paris to the French Riviera. She was only 28 years old at the time of her death and was buried in her late husband’s family cemetery in St Peter’s Churchyard, Edensor, outside Chatsworth, Derbyshire.
