Sabo’s Backstory / Luffy’s Childhood
WARNING: The following section contains spoilers. proceed with caution!
In one of the most surprising moments of OPLA Season 2, we got our first look at Sabo, the second-in-command of the Revolutionary Army’s Dragons and sworn brother of Luffy and Ace.
In the manga/anime, Sabo’s introduction and backstory are not revealed until after the events of Marineford in the post-war arc, when we get a flashback to Luffy’s childhood. where is given a piece The story is the formal introduction of Sabo, we could be years away from seeing Sabo on our screens.

Ace will be introduced in the third season, so this would be the perfect opportunity to bring that story forward and spend an episode on the trio’s background. This will not only deepen the audience’s attachment to Luffy and Ace, but also further add to their intrigue in Sabo, who has not yet been mentioned by name in OPLA.

First Introduction to Haki
Haki is one of the most important and powerful abilities in One Piece. However, Luffy does not officially learn what Haki is until the Marineford Arc, although there are a few instances of Haki being used in the story before that point.
Shanks used Conqueror’s Haki to knock out the Lord of the Coast when he saved Luffy’s life, and in the Sky Island Arc, Anvil’s “spell” is Observation Haki. There was also an example of Conqueror’s Haki being used when Shanks meets Whitebeard.

Luffy himself begins to inadvertently use the pre-time skip against Duval’s bull Mount Motobaro and during the events of Amazon Lily, Impel Down, and Marineford. However, it is not until after Marineford that Luffy explicitly learns what Haki is and how to use it from Silver Rayle.

OPLA could use this opportunity to introduce Haki much earlier in the story. While this deviation from the source material may upset some fans, it wouldn’t be a huge complaint if Anvil actually referred to the power as Haki and removed the spell name. They may abandon Rokushiki, the martial arts ability used by CP9 agents, in favor of Armament Haki.
Luffy’s parentage
To this day, we still don’t know the identity of Luffy’s mother, but it wasn’t until the events of Ennis Lobby that we found out that Dragon is Luffy’s father. In the anime/manga, this is also when we learn that Garp is Luffy’s grandfather, but OPLA has already brought that revelation hundreds of chapters ahead.
This wouldn’t be very impactful on the story, but if this revelation comes earlier, it could be another way to motivate the Navy (especially the Smokers) to pursue the Straw Hat Pirates.

However, it also presents a chance to utilize the dragon in Luffy’s backstory. While he is an absent father, he can see her from a distance. This would also provide another reason as to why the dragon is in the area as he saved Sabo after Sabo’s boat was destroyed by a divine dragon, and he was left for dead.
Overall, we would like to see this revelation be used to add more context to Luffy’s backstory.
More about Sanji’s backstory
A surprise in OPLA Season 2 was Sanji telling Nami about his mother, her illness and how he used to cook for her. After his death, he continued to hone his skills as a cook in his honor. It was an incredibly heartwarming moment, which was well received by fans.

In the anime/manga, we don’t discover Sanji’s backstory until the Whole Cake Island Arc, which has over 800 chapters and episodes in the source material. Although the events of Whole Cake Island are unlikely to be revealed, that doesn’t mean we can’t learn more about Sanji.
Sanji is the youngest son of King Winsmoke Judge of the Germa Empire. Strawhat Cook ran away from Germany as a child due to constant bullying by his brothers and being deemed a “failure” by his father.

In the source material, Sanji’s wanted poster is mistaken for Duval’s poster. But Duval is not introduced until after the events of Thriller Bark. Alternatively, OPLA may choose to reveal Sanji as Vinsmoke when his first bounty poster is released. How they’ll work to reveal Sanji’s backstory in the events of the show’s pre-time skip remains to be seen, but having Sanji’s Vinsmoke legacy looming over his head could be a welcome addition to the story.
pel dies
Pretty self-explanatory. Pele is a classic character introduced in the Alabasta Arc. One of the chief protectors of the Alabasta Kingdom, he is not only Princess Vivi’s dear friend, but also one of the kingdom’s strongest fighters.
During the events of the Alabasta Saga, Pel sacrifices himself to save the country from a bomb planted by Mr. 0. The explosion should have killed him, and it would have been one of the best sacrifices seen in the entire One Piece story. However, he somehow survived the explosion, was treated for his wounds, and made a full recovery. Pell is a fan favorite, but surviving the bombing is often seen as a missed opportunity to raise the stakes.

In live-action, we’ve already seen the death of Kaya’s butler, Marie, at the hands of Captain Kuro, and Igaram is believed to have died at the hands of Mister 5. If live-action wasn’t afraid of characters dying, Pell’s self-sacrifice could have been an incredible moment for the adaptation.
