The Mystery Machine is resurfacing, and we have an exciting new casting tip to share. Sources tell What’s on Netflix that Paul Walter Hauser currently has an offer for a starring role in Netflix’s upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series: The Original Boss of Scooby.
In case you missed the news in March 2025, Netflix officially handed a script-to-series commitment to a new one-hour live-action adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon. The highly anticipated project comes to us from Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, from writers Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg (cowboy bebop, citadel) At the top.
Since the initial announcement, things have been relatively quiet on the casting front as the creative team prepares this new version of Mystery Inc. Traditionally, we know Shaggy Rogers as Scooby’s lifelong friend, though there have been various animated iterations over the decades (from a puppy named scooby-doo by 2020 Scoob!) has transformed exactly how the cowardly Great Dane and his snacking friend first met each other. Cameras are scheduled to begin filming next month on April 27 in Atlanta and run through September. If Hauser signs on the dotted line, it would be a huge accomplishment for the production. The Emmy-winning actor is having an absolutely amazing time at the moment.
