Netflix’s ambitious sci-fi epic 3 physical problems It’s currently deep into production for its follow-up season, but we have some new information regarding the scale of the next outing. We can now confirm that Season 2 will have 6 episodes, a step down from the 8 episodes seen in Season 1, and assuming our original information is still correct (as it is for Season 2), Season 3 will be even shorter.
Created by David Benioff, DB Weiss and Alexander Wu, 3 physical problems This was a big swing for Netflix in early 2024. While the show was eventually renewed for a second and third season to “complete the story”, details on the exact structure of those seasons have been kept secret until now.
This is confirmed through a wrap gift/photo shared by a member of the production crew when filming on the current block ended. The image clearly shows the production schedule and episode count for the upcoming “Season 2”, with episodes listed from 201 to 206.

It is like this Our previous report Seasons 2 and 3 are being filmed back-to-back. By continuing filming until 2027, the production wants to maintain continuity for its old cast and manage the enormous logistical constraints of its new filming locations. Our report also suggested that the total episode count, based on tax credit awards from Hungary, will be 11 in both seasons 2 and 3. At the time of publication we were skeptical and suggested this might change. Netflix declined to comment.

According to our knowledge, Season 3 will be 5 episodes long, which means Season 2 may be considered for Emmy consideration, Season 3 possibly not.
While the 6-episode count may worry fans of the denser Liu Cixin novels, it probably points to a “quality over quantity” approach. With the show’s huge budget (estimated at over $20 million per episode for Season 1), concentrating funds into fewer episodes could allow for the world-shaking visual effects required for the later books, The Dark Forest and Death’s End. Now they have got the time to do justice.
season 2 of 3 physical problems Production ended in February 2026 and a release was confirmed in 2026. It’s unclear when Season 3 will return to production but we can guess sometime this year.
Netflix’s growing trend of shorter returning seasons
3 Body Problems isn’t the first major Netflix series to have its episode count cut as it moves forward. We have seen a growing trend of “prestige” dramas moving away from the traditional 8- or 10-episode structure in subsequent years.
The most notable example is Umbrella Academywhich aired its fourth and final season earlier this year with only 6 episodes, down from the 10-episode order of its first three seasons. But Avatar The Last Airbender We Now Know Season 2 Will Have a Lower Episode Count Ransom Canyon return.
Netflix has not responded to requests for updated comments on the episode number, and as mentioned, had previously declined to comment on the production schedule.
