If you’ve ever wondered what hit Netflix this week, or need to quickly filter down to just documentaries or English-language titles, we’ve got good news: our What’s New on Netflix page has just been completely redesigned, and it’s designed to make discovering new releases faster and easier than ever.

We’ve been tracking new releases on Netflix for over a decade and starting in late 2010, we’ve been building our database of new releases and adding functionality and new details about titles over time, but our What’s New page has always been stuck in time for quite some time, and now, finally, we’re introducing a major change.

What’s new on the Netflix page?

The What’s New on Netflix page is your one-stop hub for all the new movies, series, documentaries, and specials added to Netflix (US). Instead of scrolling through the app or digging through multiple articles, you get the entire catalog in one place – organized by date and filled with details to help you decide what to look at next.

What’s new in this update

Daily Summary at a Glance

We’ve added a quick description for each release date. You’ll now see lines like “8 new releases: 5 movies and 3 TV series” right below the date, so you can immediately see how many titles dropped that day and how they’re split between movies and series.

smarter search

The search bar now shows titles, descriptions, directors and actors. Are you searching for everything to do with your favorite actor or director? Just type their name and go.

powerful filter

Narrow the catalog with filters for:

  • Language (e.g. English only)
  • Type (Movies or Series)
  • Content Tags: documentary, anime, stand-up, reality, kids
  • only netflix originals
  • Our Must-See Challenges
  • Titles have been blocked at the ad-supported level
  • Titles that are “Back to Netflix” (Back to Catalog)

“Last seen/new season” for returning titles.

When a movie or series comes back to Netflix after being moved, we now show a “Last Seen” banner that states how long it’s been there – for example, “Last Seen” with “2 years, 3 months ago” written below it. It’s a little touch that makes it easier to find what’s on Netflix. Likewise, this functionality also lets you watch new seasons of returning shows!

dark and light mode

You can switch between dark theme (great for late night browsing) and light theme. Your choice is remembered for your next visit.

weekly recap carousel

At the top of the page, you’ll find our weekly recap carousel – quick links to our recap articles so you can go straight to the written summary if you want more context.

statistics at a glance

A statistics bar shows you the totals for this week, this month, and this year, as well as how many movies, series, and originals have been added so far this year. This all updates as you filter.

fast loading

We’ve redesigned how the page loads its data. Layouts and filters appear first, with the title list loading in the background. This means faster initial load and a better experience, especially on slower connections.

How to use it

Head over to our What’s New on Netflix category and start browsing. Use search and filters to narrow things down, or scroll through the daily groups to see what’s new each day. Click “Trailer” on any title card to see a preview in a pop-up, or use “Watch on Netflix” to go directly to the title on Netflix.

blast into the past

Our new section on Netflix has come a long way in the last 10 years. This is what it looked like a decade ago.
