The series entered the weekly global top 10 charts, garnering 3.1 million views and 11.5 million watch hours.

It’s rare but not entirely unusual for films to return to Netflix’s top 10 years after their release – often inspired by a viral TikTok trend or the release of a sequel. However, it’s rare to see a six-year-old limited documentary series suddenly dominating the global charts with this level of intensity.

Released in May 2020, the docuseries’ synopsis reads, “Survivors’ stories fuel this docuseries, which examines how convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein used his wealth and power to carry out his abuses.”

based on data Provided by FlixPatrolThe four-part series — which originally premiered in May 2020 — began a quiet rise earlier this week before exploding in viewership over the past 48 hours. At the beginning of the week (4 February), the show was only airing in a few regions, notably Jordan, Türkiye and Norway. However, by the weekend the outbreak had begun to spread rapidly across Europe and South America.

Jeffrey Epstein: Why is Dirty Rich resurfacing in Netflix’s top 10?

If you’ve been following the news the reason for the resurgence should be fairly obvious as the Epstein files have dominated the news cycle since the release of thousands of documents. Relating to emails and other relevant files of a convicted sex offender. In total, 3.5 million pages have been released with 2,000 videos and 180,000 images. It has taken some time for journalists and members of the general public to investigate them, and, in most cases, it has raised more questions than answers. The story has caused political disruption in several countries, including the United Kingdom Prime Minister’s career is under threat By appointing someone associated with Epstein. The story goes back a long way and will no doubt continue to be relevant in the months and years to come.

This is not the first time that we have seen this particular docu-series surge into the top 10 with a stint of more than a week in December 2024.

As far as Netflix goes, people were probably curious and started searching on Netflix or were inspired by mentions of documentaries on social media, and once it reached the top 10, it took on a life of its own. Of course, once a show or movie gains momentum on Netflix, it also rises up in people’s algorithms, creating a kind of self-perpetuating popularity.

Shows and movies returning to Netflix’s top 10 years after their premiere are rare, though not impossible. The latest example of this was the Michelle Obama documentary, which gained momentum on social media and competed with the Melania documentary in theaters.

According to Netflix engagement reports, the docu-series was watched 75.7M hours globally between 2023 and 2025, which equates to 20.2M views.

Is there a new Jeffrey Epstein documentary coming to Netflix in 2026?

We should also take special note of the viral rumors about another documentary currently circulating on Facebook. Over the past few weeks, several pages, often originating from countries such as Indonesia, India, Vietnam, and the Philippines, have been spreading apparently AI-generated photos about a new documentary, using different names and fake descriptions, all generated by AI. Some of them are more clearly AI than others, including the one posted below for “The Epstein Files (2026)” which, oddly enough, involves a bunch of blonde women and old cars for some reason. Although we can’t rule out the possibility of Netflix returning to the topic, nothing has been announced, and everything shared is fake.
