Following a rare statement from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Netflix has officially adjusted the title and framing of their upcoming music documentary ahead of its March 20, 2026 release.

Originally announced as Rise of Red Hot ChiliThe film will now be released under the extended title Rise of the Red Hot Pepper: Our Brother, Hillel. The name change serves as a direct response to criticism from Anthony Kiedis, Flea, and the rest of the band, who have recently distanced themselves from marketing the project.

As we previously reported, the documentary, directed by Ben Feldman and produced by Hillel Slovak’s brother, James, was initially marketed as a comprehensive look at the band’s rise. However, on January 30, 2026, the Red Hot Chili Peppers released a statement clarifying that they had no creative involvement in the project.

To combat this opposition, Netflix has placed an emphasis on marketing to ensure that fans understand the true focus of the film. The updated title and official summary now puts the Slovaks front and center:

An in-depth look at the early years of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the profound influence of original guitarist, Hillel Slovak. The film explores the band’s early development in LA and the deep relationships formed through their friendship.
