Another high-profile international Netflix Original is set to leave the service globally. Australian political thriller Secret City, starring Anna Torv of the last of us, areaAnd mindhunterwill Netflix on March 4, 2026.
It’s been a tough start to the year for longtime subscribers, as the service has lost a number of licensed “originals” as their fixed-term distribution deals expire. As we covered just before the year started, more than 100 Netflix Originals will face dismissal this year, with many not finding new streaming homes after leaving Netflix.

A label has now been added to the show’s page indicating that you have until March 3 to finish your engagement.

As she gets closer to the truth, she finds herself in the middle of rising tensions between China and the United States, threatening the security of all of Australia.
The series features a stellar cast including:

The show received strong reviews throughout its run and as of the time of publication it still holds a 7.4/10 on IMDb. The show is watched millions of times on Netflix every year, with a Netflix engagement report covering 2023-2025 showing that it received 8.3 million views during that period.
Why secret city Leaving Netflix?
As we often cover here, the Netflix Original label can be confusing, given that there are so many different types of Netflix Originals. While Netflix airs the show exclusively in several international territories, it did not produce it.
secret city It is a production of Matchbox Pictures and Foxtel. It originally aired in Australia on Fox Showcase. Netflix acquired exclusive international distribution rights, effectively renting the show for a fixed period of time.
That period has now ended. As is standard with these licensing deals, once the contract expires, the rights revert to the owner (Foxtel/Matchbox Pictures), and the title must be removed from Netflix unless a renewal deal is reached. We’ve seen some shows get renewed, but realistically, that may not be the case here.
