find its edge It’s a poignant, high-stakes sports drama pulls Loose Inspired by and sets the story from one of Jane Austen’s classics The intense world of competitive ice dancing.

From showrunner Jeff Norton (geek girl), Netflix’s 8-episode drama find its edge Based on the 2022 novel by Jennifer Iacopelli. The book quickly became a phenomenon after entering the ‘BookTok’ community on TikTok, a platform that has become the go-to place for a lot of readers these days. The BookTok community is becoming more and more influential with everything going on in the world of streaming Evelyn Hugo’s seven husbands To court of thorns and roses In line for live-action adaptations.

In find its edgeWe follow Adriana Russo (Madeline Keyes), a former competitive skater from a family with a respected history in the ice skating arena. When her proud older sister Alice (Alexandra Beaton) gets injured in a competition, Adriana decides to put the skates back on. But it’s not just for his own vanity. He needs to earn sponsorship to save his family’s ice rink. After her former partner – and lover – Freddy (Ollie Atkins) moves on to another partner, she begins to pretend to be in love with her new on-ice partner Braden (Cale Ambrosik), if only to secure that all-important sponsorship.

The timing of the release no doubt coincides with the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, where figure skating will have a major presence. despite this find its edge Being a pure work of fiction, it makes you appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into the game.

Throughout the series, we see the youngest Russo sister, Maria (or Mimi, as she is mostly referred to), who is constantly reading Regency-era author Jane Austen as part of a school project. This almost echoes the overall plot of the show – it takes inspiration from Jane Austen’s classic Incentive. It challenges notions of identity and explores earned confidence and new love.

Let’s not be wrong Incentive The motivation is loose at best, but it still serves as a solid foundation for building the plot. It ends with more YA romance tropes than you could possibly imagine: fake dating, childhood friends, enemies to lovers, and one of the wildest love triangles you’ve seen on television in quite some time.

The entire plot is built around the central love triangle and the moral dilemmas that come with it. Of course, skate partners are not romantic partners, but they are can do Blossom into romance. When Adriana is sent back to the ice skating competition, she is able to work with sole partner Brayden, a highly respected and talented dancer, but extremely arrogant. Her true love is Freddy, but he has now moved on to a new partner. What’s more, they all live in the same house where the pressure is immense and the tension almost palpable. When Adriana and Brayden both realize that publicity increases their chances of success, they resort to fake dating to increase their public reception and ratings… and it works. The series leaves you guessing and considering which love is real, and which is just for personal gain.

Whereas find its edge While Adriana’s story is at its core, it also traces the relationships, trials and tribulations of her two sisters – proud and stubborn older sister Alice and rebellious younger sister Maria (Alice Malakhov). I especially enjoyed Maria’s story. Hoping to continue the family legacy, she struggles with her daily life as a teenager at school. Alice Malakhov is an extraordinary performer who delivers scenes with brimming youthful energy and enthusiasm. Meanwhile, Alexandria Beaton gives an excellent portrayal of Alice, the fiercely competitive older sister driven by strong emotions.

All the supporting actors bring something unique to the table. I really liked Harmon Walsh as Will Russo, a highly competitive former world champion and determined father of three girls. He is fundamentally a loving father, but often finds himself driven by business and image rather than family. Then there’s Ollie Atkins as Freddy and Kel Ambrozic as Brayden. Both of these teens are written as stereotypes and lived-in clichés, but both actors deliver great performances with a wide emotional range.

The series also brings spectacle, especially in skating performances. You see the choreography from its beginnings in the dance studio, to the endless grueling rehearsals, to the visually spectacular expected performance.

Sure, the plot is full of clichés and is predictable, but that’s not a deterrent. For shows like this, it’s about the journey rather than the destination. The family drama and delicate romance provide more than enough to keep you engaged until the final credits roll. And you may want even more. The ending leaves room for another season. It has both a satisfying and conclusive ending, while leaving the door open for much more story to tell.
