Back to the grind! For millions of people, you’ll be going back to school or work this week with another festive holiday in the history books. As we enter the January season, Netflix has several new releases this week that will chase away the January blues.
On the removal front this week, all of DreamWorks’ Captain Underpants series, including all three seasons of the main show and its Christmas and space spin-offs, is leaving on January 9. the maze Runner 20th Century Fox’s trilogy will depart on January 10, and the excellent Polish animated film the peasants Departure on the 12th.

We’ve looked at a bunch of A24 movies to kick off the new year, and some of the better ones have been added under the silver lakeA mystery thriller with a dash of horror headlined by Andrew Garfield and Riley Keough. This comes from David Robert Mitchell, who worked on It is like this Before this project, several new projects were in the works in 2014.
The plot revolves around a twenty-year-old man who becomes obsessed with a mysterious woman he meets while swimming late at night in his apartment complex. When she disappears without a trace the next morning, his search draws him into a dreamlike labyrinth of Los Angeles, where hidden messages, buried scandals and bizarre conspiracies lurk beneath the city’s sunlit surface.

We’ve seen a handful of Hulu Originals arrive on Netflix in recent years, and the latest is one of the earliest limited series to grace the streamer, an adaptation of one of Stephen King’s most beloved novels. Released a decade earlier, 11.22.63 follows the adventures of Jake Epping, who is shown a secret portal behind a restaurant that allows him to travel back to a specific point in time. Using this, he chooses to continue Al Templeton’s mission by agreeing to catch JFK’s assassin before that happens. The eight episodes are cleverly constructed, and James Franco, who leads the cast alongside Daniel Webber, George MacKay, and Chris Cooper, is excellent here.

Netflix plans to release two big movies in January: incisionWhose trailer has just come out, and People we meet on holidaysIt brings Emily Henry’s book to life, with Brett Haley directing and a cast led by Emily Bader, Tom Blythe, Sarah Catherine Hook, Lucien LaViscount, Miles Heizer and Jameela Jamil,
The film’s official logline reads, “Free-spirited Poppy and regular-loving Alex haven’t been best friends for a decade, living in different cities but spending every summer vacation together. The careful balance of their friendship is tested when they begin to question what’s obvious to everyone else – could they really be the perfect romantic pair?”
