The Disney-to-Netflix licensing pipeline shows no signs of slowing down in 2026. We learned that the long-running, Emmy-nominated sitcom black-ish Barris from Kenya is the next major ABC title coming to the service for a limited time in the United States.
After successfully adding other Disney-owned properties lost, prison escapeAnd How I Met Your Mother Over the past few years, it appears that Netflix’s work isn’t done. Netflix has secured non-exclusive streaming rights to the Johnson family saga. The series, so far, has mostly streamed exclusively on Hulu and Disney+.

What is black-ish About this?
Created by Kenya Barris, the series originally aired on ABC from 2014 to 2022. It focuses on Andre “Dre” Johnson, an upper-middle-class advertising executive who worries that he has lost touch with his own black culture as his family assimilates into a predominantly white, wealthy neighborhood.
Barris, as you may know, joined Netflix for a period under a lucrative overall deal, though he didn’t produce much for Netflix. His biggest success was this film you guysStarring Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy. he had a big show for netflix #BlackAFwhich ran for one season, and he produced Entergalactic, We the People, and Astronomy Club: The Sketch Show.
During its eight season run, the show was praised for its ability to balance traditional sitcom humor with poignant commentary on socio-political issues, including police brutality, the history of Juneteenth, and the complexities of modern identity.
The official summary reads:
“Dre Johnson (Anthony Anderson) has it all: a great job, a beautiful wife, Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross), four kids, and a colonial home in the suburbs. But has success brought too much harmony for this black family? With a little help from his father (Laurence Fishburne), Dre sets out to establish a sense of cultural identity for his family that honors their past while embracing the future.”

Will spinoffs be included?
Currently, the deal Covers only the main series, black-ish,
Popular college-set spinoffs adult-ish and prequel mixed-ish Stay tuned to Hulu and Disney+ for now. However, given how often these licensing deals extend (we’ve seen that recently). walking dead spinoffs follow the main show), it’s possible we could see the expanded “ish” universe come the end of the year.
