For the duration of the festival, they are running what they call “12 days of bridgertonEvery day, their website is updated with new information or something that catches everyone’s attention. bridgerton-Connected. There are some more useless days like Day 3 when they just promoted the shop, but on other days the cast answered various questions,

Day 6 included showrunner Jess Brownell, who describes the season as “fascinating in so many ways”, calling it “a real platter of choices”, highlighting the mix of “up, down”, “fantasy meets reality” and a “forbidden romance”. She says one of the biggest surprises has been to see “new levels of Benedict Bridgerton”, a character audiences may think has “done it all” and “seen it all.” Brownell explains that what Benedict is missing is “really vulnerable and really committed”. She says that “finally this season, Sophie will challenge him to do that,” before cheekily teasing, “Can I say bathtub?”
This is in addition to brand new character portraits from the upcoming season:
Jess Brownell’s press tour begins
In addition to features on Shondaland, the showrunner has been making the rounds with major outlets, dropping different breadcrumbs with each interview.
talking with tvline on weekendsJess Brownell teased her bridgerton Season 4 will try something new in the romance department, promising another carriage scene: “One of them involves a body of water, the other one involves a different body of water… We’re always looking for ways to do something new in the swoon-worthy scene department.”
He also addressed the returning couples and siblings:
- Colin and Penelope: “This is a big season for Penelope… She has to understand what it’s like to be a gossip columnist when the people you’re writing about know you’re the one writing about them.”
- Francesca and John: “This season is about exploring her marriage with John… giving the audience a chance to understand what their daily routine is like, and then also seeing what potentially happens when Michaela… returns to London.”
- Viscount: Jonathan Bailey returns, with Brownell joking that he brings his “Sexiest Man Alive” persona to the set: “He’s just the epitome of that when he steps on the set… He’ll be back this season; I can’t say exactly when or in what capacity.”
During this time, Entertainment Weekly gave us New first look and a deeper dive In the theme and tone of the season.
In that feature, Brownell described season 4 as a unique spin on the Cinderella trope. She notes that unlike traditional iterations, Sophie is “no such thing” as a damsel in distress; Instead, audiences will see “a very stubborn young woman try to decide her own destiny.” Brownell revealed that the source material, an offer from a gentlemanwas the easiest book to adapt because of its “rich set pieces”, which gave us juicy conflicts and high stakes, including the masquerade ball where Benedict meets the “Lady in Silver”.
The chemistry between actors Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha is reportedly fantastic, with a private dance scene in the pergola described by Brownell as “perfect and very touching and full of so much tension and sparkle”.
Beyond the central romance, the season will highlight the “up, down dynamics” contrasting Benedict’s “fantasy world” with Sophie’s “harsh reality”. The show aims to explore “grey areas” regarding Sophie’s employer, Araminta Gunn, rather than portray Sophie as a simple villain. Returning favorites also face new challenges: Violet Bridgerton must decide whether she is “brave enough to pour out her heart” to Lord Anderson, while Penelope Featherington navigates the “tricky situation” of maintaining her journalistic integrity as Lady Whistledown without offending Queen Charlotte.
Ultimately, Brownell emphasizes that the season is about courage, noting that “Benedict needs to be courageous about commitment… [and] Sophie needs to be courageous about being courageous in love and allowing herself to dream.
